System administration Bruges

System administration in Bruges, from the canals to the port

Bruges combines a historic city centre with an international port in Zeebrugge. Infodatek Group manages the IT of SMEs in both worlds: servers, backup, security, cloud and contact with your suppliers. Proactively, with one dedicated contact, from our head office in Terneuzen, just across the border.

World heritage and world port

Modern IT behind historic facades

Running a business in Bruges often means working in a building with centuries of history. Behind the stepped gables of the centre you find lawyers, architects, tour operators and hotels, while logistics and industry are in full swing in Zeebrugge and on the business parks around the city. Infodatek Group handles system administration for all these SMEs: we monitor servers and network, install updates, take care of backup and recovery, secure your environment and deal with your suppliers. Everything is documented and proactively managed, with one point of contact.

  • An IT environment that fits in a listed building
  • Servers, cloud and backup proactively monitored
  • Maintenance planned around the tourist season
  • Certified to ISO 27001 and NEN 7510

Inside the old ramparts

System administration in Bruges for offices in historic buildings

The historic centre has been on the UNESCO World Heritage List since 2000. A wonderful place to work, but in a listed building you cannot run new cables wherever you like, and a separate server room is rare. The server often lives in a cellar or an attic cupboard, between the archive and the boiler.

Together we look at what really needs to stay in the building. Many applications can move to Microsoft 365 or to ANYBASE, our private cloud in a Tier 3 designed data centre in the European Union. Whatever stays on site we keep compact and well managed, with a stable connection and a backup off the premises. The building keeps its charm and your IT runs on modern foundations.

Zeebrugge

IT for logistics and industry around the port of Zeebrugge

Zeebrugge is part of Bruges, and since 2022 it has formed one port company with Antwerp: Port of Antwerp-Bruges. The port is strong in roll-on/roll-off freight, car handling and ferries to the United Kingdom. Around the terminals you find freight forwarders, customs agents, warehousing firms and technical service providers.

Their work runs in shifts and follows the ships, not the clock. We align maintenance with that schedule and keep an eye on servers and integrations with customers and port systems. Office and terminal equipment each get their own network segment, and software or equipment suppliers get secure remote access to only what they need.

  • Maintenance aligned with shifts and ship movements
  • Monitoring of servers, storage and integrations
  • Secure remote access for suppliers
  • Office and operations kept apart, yet visible together

The season

Tourism in Bruges: IT management that moves with the season

Hotels, restaurants, tour operators and attractions in the city follow a clear rhythm: busy in spring, summer and the Christmas period, quieter in the winter months. For these businesses, the timing of a change matters almost as much as the change itself.

That is why we schedule big projects, such as a new server, a move to the cloud or a renewed network, in the quiet weeks. In high season we keep changes to what is necessary and pay extra attention. Seasonal staff get an account without delay and lose access again when their contract ends.

Sectors

For businesses in and around the city

Alongside tourism and the port, the region has a broad economy, from food and construction to care and legal services.

Construction and restoration

Restoration firms, joiners and contractors work on buildings with a long history. For each project they keep photos, drawings, permits and reports. We make sure that archive is secure, easy to search and accessible to the right people.

Food and processing

West Flanders is home to many food companies. Processors and wholesalers in the region work with production planning, traceability and links with their buyers. We keep the systems behind all that stable and schedule maintenance outside production hours.

Notaries and lawyers

Law firms in the city centre work with confidential files and often a large paper archive. We set up a digital environment with strict access rights, so every file is protected and still quick to find.

Residential care and wellbeing

Care homes, home care services and practices process sensitive data and have staff working round the clock. Our NEN 7510 certification matches that responsibility, and we keep the environment stable for everyone who relies on it.

Service area

System administration in Bruges and the surrounding countryside

We work for businesses inside the old ramparts and in the sub-municipalities of Sint-Andries, Sint-Michiels, Assebroek, Sint-Kruis, Koolkerke, Dudzele, Lissewege and Zeebrugge. We are also happy to visit the municipalities around the city, such as Oostkamp, Damme, Jabbeke, Zedelgem and Beernem.

From Terneuzen we drive via Zelzate and the N49, past Eeklo and Maldegem, into the city. Day-to-day management runs remotely, so for most questions nobody needs to be on the road. For an inventory, an installation or the strategy meeting we plan a visit, in the historic centre or on a business park on the edge of the city.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about system administration in Bruges

Our office is in a listed building in the city centre. Can we get rid of our server?

In many cases, yes. We look at the applications you use and where they fit best. Email, files and collaboration often move to Microsoft 365, and software that needs a server can go to ANYBASE, our private cloud in the European Union. What remains in the building is mainly the network and a good internet connection. We plan the move so you can keep working as usual.

We want no surprises in high season. When do you make big changes?

Whenever it suits you. At the start we agree together which periods are busy, and we take that into account. Big projects are scheduled in the quiet months. During the busy weeks we only install necessary updates, at times agreed with you in advance. That way you can give your guests your full attention.

Do you also work for companies in Zeebrugge with shift work?

Yes. Our monitoring keeps an eye on your servers, storage and integrations, so anomalies stand out, outside office hours too. We plan maintenance in consultation with operations. If you want someone actively watching the security of your environment at night as well, you can add day and night monitoring. It comes as standard in the Elite edition of Digital Care.

We want to digitise our paper archive. Can you help?

The scanning itself is best left to a specialist company. We take care of where the digital archive ends up: secure storage, clear access rights and a backup we follow up. If you later want to search it smartly, you can do so with the Knowledge Vault in Managed Cowork. It answers only from documents an employee is entitled to see, with the source included.
