Network management and system administration: what is the difference?
In SMEs, network management and system administration are often handled by the same person or department. In larger organisations these tasks are usually split. The system administrator takes care of servers, software, updates and backup. The network administrator looks after the bottom layer: everything from where the internet enters the building to the workplace.

Larger and more complex organisations often have their own IT department, but not always a network specialist in house. Frequently asked questions about network management
Why does the Wi-Fi work better in one part of our building than in another?
Coverage depends on where the access points are, on walls and racking, and on the number of users. With a Wi-Fi survey we map where the signal is strong and where it can be better. We then advise on extra or relocated access points and the right settings, so working is pleasant everywhere in the building.
Do we need a guest network?
A guest network gives visitors, suppliers and personal phones internet access, separate from your business network. It is convenient for your guests and keeps your own systems clearly organised. We set it up with its own password or a sign-in page, and decide how much bandwidth it may use, so your own work always comes first.
Can you take over management of our existing equipment?
Usually, yes. We start with an inventory of your firewall, switches and access points. What is in good shape, we simply take into management. If something is due for replacement, we tell you why and give you a proposal, so you can plan it at a time that suits you.
How do you connect several locations?
With a secure connection between the firewalls at your sites, all locations work as one network. Colleagues reach the same systems wherever they are, and we manage everything from a single overview. We keep the settings identical at every site, so a new location can be connected quickly and to the same design.
Can you manage just the network, alongside our own IT department?
Yes. Many IT departments have day-to-day operations well in hand and bring us in for the network. We take over network management, help with a renewal or join as a specialist through Expert IT. Your IT department stays in charge, and we bring the network expertise and the extra pair of hands.
