IT for logistics and ports

IT for logistics and ports, from quayside to customer portal

In logistics the clock never stops, so neither can your IT. Infodatek Group manages the systems of hauliers, warehouses and port businesses proactively, with a dedicated contact who knows your planning and your peak moments. Our own head office in Terneuzen sits right on North Sea Port.

Logistics runs on information

Every shipment starts and ends in a system

A container, pallet or trailer only moves once the data is right. Orders arrive through EDI or a customer portal, the warehouse management system directs the order pickers, planning allocates the trips and the customs declaration has to be ready in time. In between are handheld scanners, on-board computers, label printers and an office running Microsoft 365. Infodatek Group manages that whole chain as one environment: the office, the network in the warehouse, the servers behind your WMS and the links with customers and carriers. That way your information flows as smoothly as your goods.

  • Office, warehouse, planning and integrations under one management
  • Wifi and scanners that work right down to the furthest aisle
  • Maintenance planned outside your busy hours and peak days
  • Security and documentation for customer requirements and NIS2

What the sector deals with

What logistics companies need from their IT

Logistics works with tight time windows. A lorry is waiting at the dock, a ship has a fixed berth time and a customer wants to know exactly where their consignment is. That calls for systems that are available day and night, and for people who can switch quickly when the planning changes.

On top of that, companies in the chain are closely connected. Shippers, carriers, terminals, forwarders and customs exchange data all day long, and every link is part of your service. Clients therefore look closely at how reliable and secure that exchange is, especially for a new contract or tender.

  • Warehouse management and transport planning that are always reachable
  • EDI and API links with shippers, customers and carriers
  • Handheld scanners, label printers and on-board computers in one overview
  • Lots of changing staff, agency workers and shift patterns

Warehouse and terminal

A network for warehouse, dock and quay

A warehouse with high racking, steel shelving and cold rooms is a tricky place for wifi. Even so, handheld scanners, forklift terminals and tablets need a connection everywhere, from the inbound dock to the last aisle. We first measure where the signal drops, then design the network around how your warehouse works.

Office, warehouse, cameras and visitors each get their own network. Drivers waiting at the dock can use the guest network without getting anywhere near your systems. If you have several sites, such as a warehouse at the port and a depot inland, we connect them securely.

  • Wifi coverage measured and matched to racking and docks
  • Separate networks for office, warehouse, cameras and drivers
  • Firewall management and secure remote access for your software suppliers
  • Monitoring of switches, access points and links between sites

Systems and integrations

WMS, TMS and customer links that keep running

Your warehouse management system and your transport planning are the heart of the business. We look after the foundation beneath them: servers or cloud, backup, access rights and updates, coordinated with your software supplier. If your WMS still runs on its own server, it can move to ANYBASE, our private cloud in a Tier 3 designed data centre in the European Union. Servers and databases are backed up every night, in our own data centre in the European Union and with an offline copy on tape.

For integrations you also have our own software team. Think of a link between your WMS and your accounts, a customer portal where clients follow the status of their consignment, or automation that removes the need to retype orders.

Continuity and security

Working securely in the logistics chain

Because logistics carries on around the clock, we work proactively. Our monitoring keeps a constant eye on things, and we schedule updates in consultation for times when the warehouse is quiet. If you want someone watching your security at night as well, you can add round-the-clock monitoring. In the Elite edition of Digital Care, our own platform, it comes as standard.

NIS2 applies to part of the sector, for example certain water transport companies, ports and postal and courier services. Businesses outside its scope still get questions from clients who have to secure their own supply chain. With Smart Compliance we record the measures you have in place, and with security awareness training your planners and drivers spot an odd payment request sooner. Infodatek Group itself holds ISO 27001 certification.

Who it is for

Which logistics companies do we work for?

We work for businesses across the chain: around North Sea Port, the cross-border port of Vlissingen, Terneuzen and Ghent, in West Brabant, in the Utrecht region and beyond. A few examples.

Warehousing and fulfilment

Storage, order picking and dispatch run on a WMS with scanners, label printers and links to web shops and shippers. We keep that chain stable, from the network in the warehouse to the server or cloud behind your software, even in peak season.

Road haulage

Planners, drivers and on-board computers are in touch with each other all day. We manage the office, the planning environment and your drivers' phones and tablets, so trips, consignment notes and sign-offs move back and forth without delay.

Freight forwarding and customs

Forwarders and customs agents handle a lot of customer data against hard deadlines. We make sure their software and integrations stay available, and that access to all that data is properly arranged and recorded.

Port companies and terminals

On and around the quay, stevedores, terminals and shipping agents work with their own systems for cargo, vessels and staff. We shape network and security around that work, with separate networks for office and operations and one overview for you.

Frequently asked questions

Frequently asked questions about IT in logistics

Our warehouse runs in shifts. When do you carry out maintenance?

At times we agree together. We look at your shift patterns, your peak days and the regular quiet moments in the week, and plan updates and maintenance around them. Larger changes are announced in advance. That way order picking carries on undisturbed. How to reach us outside office hours is set out in an emergency procedure that fits your working hours.

Can you improve the wifi in our warehouse?

Yes. We start with a survey in the warehouse itself, because racking, stock and cold rooms have a big effect on the signal. Then we advise where the access points should go and how the network is divided. After installation we monitor it, so we see when an access point drops out or coverage declines, even after your layout changes.

Do we need to replace our WMS or planning software?

No. Your software stays as it is, and its configuration stays with your supplier. We take care of the environment around it: servers or cloud, network, workstations, backup and security. We coordinate updates with your supplier, who gets secure remote access when needed. If we see room for improvement, it comes up in the strategy meeting.

Does NIS2 apply to our logistics business?

That depends on what you do and how big you are. The law can apply to certain water transport companies, to ports and to postal and courier services, generally from medium size upwards. Even if you fall outside it, customers increasingly ask about your security. We go through it with you and help with measures and documentation through Smart Compliance.

How do you handle agency staff and busy weeks?

They are part of logistics. We make sure new people quickly have an account, the right permissions and a working scanner, and that their access is closed again after their last shift. Shared devices on the floor are set up so switching users is easy. Your environment stays clear and tidy, even when your team changes from week to week.

Do you only work for businesses around the port of Vlissingen and Terneuzen?

No. Our head office in Terneuzen is on North Sea Port, and from Vianen, on the A2 and A27, we work for businesses in the middle of the country. In total we work for more than 500 organisations across the Benelux. Most management happens remotely, and we come to the warehouse or office when needed.

Does your information flow as smoothly as your goods?

In half an hour we look at your planning, your warehouse and your quay, and where IT speeds up your work.
