The modern workplace
By Didier Battermann

Today we are all noticing the sharp rise in digitalisation and all the developments that come with it. Working from home is here to stay, and the need for efficiency and security when working from home has grown enormously. These developments offer plenty of opportunities for businesses and staff, but for many businesses they are above all a tough challenge. Setting up the modern workplace properly allows a business to grow safely and responsibly along with developments in the market.
What is a modern workplace?
A modern workplace is a standardised workplace made up of a number of fixed components. Together, these components let you collaborate securely, reliably and easily, both from home and from the office. Staff are free to choose their devices. That is a welcome benefit, given that the average employee has 2 devices at his or her disposal. The modern workplace replaces outdated IT systems and takes your IT infrastructure to a higher level. It keeps the whole organisation aligned, resulting in higher productivity, both internally and externally.
What does it look like?

The foundation of the modern workplace is Microsoft 365. It gives every user a complete set of essential tools, so people can work efficiently and from any location. Besides the complete Office suite that everyone knows, every user has a 50GB mailbox and 1TB of personal storage, and several users can work in the same document at the same time.
We all know how important backups are, so they are part of the modern workplace too. To keep all data safe, there are online backups for Outlook, OneDrive and Teams. This often involves a lot of files, so the modern workplace offers storage that is unlimited in both volume and time.
Data is one of the most sensitive aspects of a business, and these days danger is always lurking. Cybersecurity is more relevant than ever, so your entire modern workplace is perfectly protected against malware, phishing, fake websites and other viruses. What's more, the security does not weigh down the workplace. It handles devices efficiently and intelligently, so there is no slowdown and employees can work unhindered but securely.
Because we at Infodatek know how busy business owners are, we offer Remote Management, where we keep an eye on everything and take the work off your hands. This includes 24/7 monitoring of the entire modern workplace. You keep a clear overview of the installed software. To be able to act quickly, we use remote takeover. This lets us take over devices remotely so we can solve any problems quickly and efficiently.
Standard features
Our experience tells us that no two businesses are the same and that there is always some customisation involved. Even so, there are certain things we always set up when a business moves to the modern workplace:
Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA)
This extra authentication usually takes the form of an app on the user's smartphone. So-called biometrics (fingerprint, iris scan, etc.) or SMS verification can also be used for this.
Microsoft Endpoint Manager
Microsoft Endpoint Manager is part of Microsoft 365 and lets you configure requirements for devices (PCs, laptops and smartphones), so that they meet certain security standards.
Microsoft Exchange
Email is a business-critical component these days. It regularly happens that someone needs to refer back to earlier email correspondence that is no longer available. It can also happen that certain information is shared by email when it should not be. In Microsoft Exchange, the email platform of Microsoft 365, various features can be used to keep email traffic secure.
When moving to a modern workplace, it is important that the old environment is phased out and all data is transferred to the cloud. That way no data is lost and you can carry on doing business without interruption. Technology does not stand still, and neither does your business!
